Life must be awesome for Derek Jeter. You make millions of dollars, get to take Minka Kelly to bed whenever you snap your fingers, and everybody glosses over your failures on the baseball field.Well, not this guy.
In the last two games, the Captain has come to the plate in critical 9th inning situations, and both times Jeter has effectively destroyed any chance for his team to win.
Last night, Joe Girardi asked him to bunt two runners into scoring position with nobody out, and Mr. Wonderful couldn't do it, and made matters worse by grounding into a double play to kill the rally completely.
Tonight, after Brett Gardner's two-out, two-run triple got the Yankees within one, good old DJ hacked at the first pitch he saw and grounded out to end the game.
Nice contribution, Cap.
My God, if it was A-Rod in those situations, can you even imagine what kind of reaction he would get? He's gotten skewered by the media for far less than that, but you won't see three words about Jeter in tomorrow's paper, unless its something about how his smile can cure cancer and solve world hunger.
But I guess it's okay because Jeter did cool stuff a decade ago, right?
Meanwhile, the Yankees have lost 8 of their last 12 games, and the only reason it isn't 9-of-12 is Luis Castillo's frying pan glove.
They need to get this together quickly, because if they don't the Red Sox are going to run away with this division. The Yanks have already shown they can't beat that team, so it's not like making up ground is going to be very easy.
Apparently Minka Kelly likes failures, and if so she should be dating me. I can come up with dozens of ways to disappoint her.

jeez pretty tough on your pretty boy captain aren't ya..I mean I hate Jeter, because he's beaten our brains in so many times..he hits 300, 20 dingers, 88 rbi's every year, below average at short but with tex at first he's having a solid year throwing..so cut him a break and if I were a fan I'd appreciate 4 titles he helped bring...plus he hits with men on in sept and oct.
You're right Rob, not one word in the papers tomorrow. Instead, you'll get a full dose of "Alex seen with Kate Hudson in a Miami club at 3AM"
The last time Jeter went .300/20/88 was 1999. He's only had 80+ RBIs three times, and only 20+ HRs three times.
He's a fine player, obviously, but at this point he's .300/15/75.
Hey he is getting better - Didn't end the game with a double play. - He Tried but didn't and that my Friend is Ya*kee Improvement.
Too Early to panic though - call me in Aug
